Who is Asif Ahmed? I’m an easy-going, fun-loving guy. I love cricket and Mexican food.

Best recent dining experience: I went to Okami Japanese Restaurant. They are amazing.

Favourite cuisine: My favourite cuisine is Mexican.

What ingredient can I not live without? Garlic.

Best coffee spot in Wagga: The Caffeinated Co next door (to Guzman y Gomez).

Next big thing in the Wagga food scene: The big brands. Rashays and Taco Bell are coming soon to Wagga.

A must-try on our menu: Cali Burritos. If you’re up for spicy chicken Cali burrito with chipotle mayo, you cannot go wrong.

Burrito

The Cali Burrito is a must-try on the Guzman y Gomez menu, according to Asif. Photo: Guzman y Gomez.

Who I admire in the Wagga food and wine scene: Robert Baliva from Tammy’s Thai Kitchen and Thaigaa. I admire Robert; he is really good. The food is always consistent. Every time you go the food tastes the same. Just amazing.

What are this week’s specials at Guzman y Gomez? We started our breakfast menu on Friday (8 July). It was our first time doing breakfast and not everyone knew about us doing it. We thought it wouldn’t be that busy but it was really good.

Death row meal: Cali Burrito with chipotle mayo.

My least favourite food: I am not a fan of noodle soup. My partner loves it but I don’t.

My COVID-19 response: It was hard but we received a lot of support from the community. Even though we were only doing takeaways and deliveries at the time, a lot of people came to support us.

My top three cooking tips: Taste whatever you’re cooking. Make sure the temperature is right before serving the food. Make sure you have the correct amount of marination.
