A bus driver has died and multiple passengers are being treated for a range of injuries after a crash on the Hume Highway just south of Wagga Wagga on the weekend.
At 3:35 am on Saturday (21 December), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway at Kyeamba, about 50 km south of Wagga Wagga, following reports of a major accident.
Officers from the Riverina and Murray River police districts arrived to find a bus and a truck – both travelling north – had collided.
The male bus driver was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.
Paramedics treated 13 bus passengers for a range of injuries, including lacerations. One man is believed to have suffered a broken leg. Police have been told none of the injuries are life-threatening.
The truck driver was not injured but was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police established a crime scene and are investigating the cause of the crash. They are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Northbound lanes of the Hume Highway were initially closed but have since reopened.
