Body recovered from Barmedman floodwaters

A body believed to be that of a missing Queensland man has been recovered from floodwater in Barmedman.

Emergency services received reports that a flooded vehicle had been sighted at Williams Crossing Road (Barmedman) at about 2.30 pm yesterday (Tuesday 20 December)

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District, with assistance from NSW SES, retrieved the vehicle and located the body.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing man.

Police say the 89-year-old man was last known to be travelling from Gympie, Queensland and was headed for South Australia via Victoria on 31 Monday, October.

When he could not be contacted, officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and began looking for him.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death continue, and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
