Balaclava-clad man armed with axe handle allegedly assaults 75-year-old in Culcairn

NSW Police are appealing for information after a man in a black balaclava allegedly broke into a home using an axe handle and assaulted an elderly Culcairn resident.

At about 7:30 pm on Tuesday (20 May), police were called to a home on Railway Parade following reports of a break and enter.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and found a 75-year-old occupant with serious facial injuries.

Police were told an unknown man allegedly forced entry into the home armed with an axe handle before assaulting the occupant and leaving the scene.

The alleged victim was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Albury Hospital for further treatment.

A crime scene was established and investigations commenced.

The man is described as being aged in his early 20s, wearing all black clothing and a black balaclava.
