A man and a woman have been charged following an alleged police pursuit in the Riverina earlier this week.
Police said Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers observed an allegedly stolen vehicle travelling on the Cobb Highway near Deniliquin at about 1:50 pm on Monday (16 December).
Police attempted to stop the vehicle and when it allegedly did not stop, a pursuit was initiated.
Police allege the pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns and officers commenced inquiries into the vehicle’s location.
Following inquiries, police located the vehicle at a service station on the Mid Western Highway, West Wyalong at about 11:40 am on Tuesday (17 December).
Murrumbidgee Police District officers, Griffith Traffic and Highway Patrol and PolAir, attended the location to arrest a 30-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman.
In an alleged attempt to leave the scene in the vehicle, the 30-year-old man allegedly hit multiple vehicles, including a police vehicle and a fuel bowser, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
The man and woman were arrested at the scene and were taken to West Wyalong Police Station.
The 30-year-old man was charged with two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, two counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of the owner and two counts of driving a motor vehicle during the disqualification period.
The 33-year-old woman was issued a future court attendance notice for two counts of being carried in conveyance taken without consent of the owner and throwing a missile at a police officer executing duty.
Both the man and woman appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 18 December.
Police will allege in court that during the pursuit the occupants of the vehicle threw projectiles at police vehicles.
I think that is a pretty good incentive View
