A truck driver has allegedly tested positive for methylamphetamine just days after Griffith Police charged him with driving with a disqualified licence.
Inspector Glenn Smith informed Region the first alleged offence occurred at 11 am on Tuesday 25 June.
Officers from Griffith Highway Patrol stopped the driver of a prime mover on Kidman Way at Hillston for roadside testing and a heavy vehicle compliance check.
Checks showed the 27-year-old man was allegedly driving on a disqualified licence. The man was arrested and issued a court attendance notice for the alleged offence of driving whilst disqualified. He was scheduled to appear before Griffith Local Court on 11 September.
Second alleged offence
Just before 8 am on Monday (1 July), officers from Griffith Highway Patrol stopped the driver of a Kenworth prime mover on Whybrow Street at Griffith – again for the purpose of roadside testing and a heavy vehicle compliance check.
The driver allegedly returned a negative roadside test for alcohol and was subjected to an oral fluid test, which allegedly returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.
The man was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station where he was subjected to a secondary oral fluid test.
Checks by police revealed the man’s arrest by police only days prior.
The 27-year-old man was charged with driving whilst disqualified, possessing a prohibited drug and possessing equipment for administering prohibited drugs.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Griffith Local Court on Monday (1 July).
