The American woman who created Mother’s Day in the early twentieth century, Anna Jarvis, stated it was a day to acknowledge and celebrate “the best mother who ever lived; yours”.

Donate to a local charity in her name
In the true spirit of Mother’s Day, donate to recently established local charity The Vilomah Community, which provides ongoing support to parents who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss.
Donate or purchase a gift from the Wagga Women’s Health Centre, another local organisation run by women for women in the local community. Your donation will go towards crisis and health support and referrals, specialist trauma counselling, therapy groups, advocacy and social action.
Get out and about in Wagga
It’s Bidgee Strawberries and Cream‘s final day of the season on Sunday, so be sure to head down to pick the last few surprises on the vines.
Grab a coffee and look at the exhibitions by local artists now at The Curious Rabbit. My Secret Garden by Elizabeth Doherty, a local Wiradjuri artist, combines traditional dot painting techniques with contemporary styles. Juanita McLauchlan, a Gamilarray woman, uses her printmaking medium to connect with her audience in her exhibition Tea and Time.
Wagga Art Gallery also has four incredible exhibitions showing over the weekend.
Riverina Comedy Club’s monthly show is running at Que Bar in Baylis Street on Friday night. Grab a $15 ticket at the door and laugh the night away.
For music-lovers: Odette presents her new show and sophomore album ‘Herald’ at the Civic Theatre on Friday night, with all ticket proceeds going to Wagga Women’s Health Centre. Get tickets here.

Spoil her with brunch at some of Wagga’s best fine dining establishments
Many local restaurants are literally throwing open their doors and hosting beautifully curated outdoor brunches. Food-I-Am’s location in the hills of Springvale is sure to prove a stunning backdrop for their 3-course Sunday luncheon.
Pastorale by Meccanico is offering a Saturday set menu lunch in town, and The Charles Boutique Hotel & Dining is hosting a 3-course luncheon with lots of choices available.

Wine-ding down
Charles Sturt Winery is extending its opening hours from this weekend onwards. Usually open Wednesday – Saturday from 12 to 5 pm, the Cellar door will now be staying open on Fridays until 7 pm. For the big day on Sunday, doors are open from 10:30 am to 5 pm for a relaxed Sunday session enjoying the best drops from Wagga.
If a day trip is on the itinerary, hop in the car and head to the Jugiong Wine Cellar for an even wider selection to delight viticulture fans of any kind.
Although, at the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with breakfast in bed and a well thought-out card.
