Murrumbidgee NSW SES has issued major and minor flood warnings for the region.
The SES has said Murrumbidgee River levels are rising due to moderate to heavy rainfall on the eastern parts of the river catchment since Thursday morning.
With minor flooding already occurring along the Murrumbidgee River at Gundagai, the SES warned of major flooding for the town by Friday evening.
Murrumbidgee SES said in a statement the Murrumbidgee River at Gundagai may exceed the moderate flood level of 7.60 metres by Friday afternoon.
The river level may exceed the major flooding level of 8.50 metres by Friday evening and may reach around 9.00 metres by Saturday morning.
Further water level rises are possible, with major flooding.
Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) said due to continuing heavy rainfall, numerous roads are affected by floodwaters.
The council advised residents to drive to the conditions and not enter flooded areas as it does not have signposting warning of flooding on many of the roads.

CGRC advised residents in Cootamundra that the sewer system in the town was still flooded from the stormwater.
Council said water levels were slowly dropping and residents were to be mindful to use water in the house sparingly and limit toilet flushing where possible.
Minor flooding is expected for Wagga by Saturday morning with moderate flooding possible Saturday evening.

The river level may reach a moderate flood level of 9.00 metres by Saturday evening. Further rises are possible.
Wagga City Council has started its flooding preparation for the closure of Riverside and the Wagga Beach carpark to the public.
Mundarlo Bridge is closed and further impacts to the road networks are expected within the Wagga area.
The SES also warns of moderate flooding along the Murrumbidgee River at Narrandera.
The river at Narrandera may reach about 7.60 metres during the day on Tuesday, with moderate flooding.
Roads and areas to avoid:
- The Morlesy Creek access to Middleton Drive is closed.
- Otway Street will close.
- Tenandra/Mundarlo Bridge will close.
- Poley Bridge will close.
- Properties will be isolated along Adelong Creek Road.
- Adelong Creek and Bereena Roads will close.
- Gobarralong Bridge will close.
- Golf Course Foot bridge over Morleys Creek will overtop.
- Gundagai River Flats will flood.
- The Gundagai River Caravan Park will need to be evacuated.
- Middleton Drive will flood.
- O’Briens Road will close – isolating properties.
The emergency service is asking residents to monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.
Farmers are advised to move livestock and equipment away from flood-prone paddocks.
