UPDATE 11:40 am: The alleged robber arrested after a car crash in regional NSW has been remanded in custody in the ACT.
Anthony Monaghan, 29, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday morning (14 December) and was charged with robbery and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
He is accused of using a screwdriver to rob a man in the ACT on 12 December 2023, during which he used force on him, before stealing his alleged victim’s Ford Ranger.
Mr Monaghan’s lawyer, Ellie Wallis from Legal Aid, said he would not apply for bail that day but wanted to make such an application in the Galambany Court later this month, which is the ACT’s circle sentencing court.
Magistrate Glenn Theakston remanded him in custody, listed the matter for a bail application on 20 December and for a mention on 25 January.
10:00 am: A man wanted over an alleged assault in Canberra was in a single-vehicle crash in Cootamundra yesterday morning.
Police said the 29-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Later, he faced Wagga Wagga Local Court, where his extradition to the ACT was granted.
ACT Policing were called to an incident at Kippax Shopping Centre in Canberra at about 3:55 am on Tuesday (12 December).
Upon arrival, police found a man who had been allegedly assaulted with a screwdriver and had his newly purchased Ford Ranger allegedly stolen.
He was taken to hospital with lacerations to his neck and ear and was later released.
The accused is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (14 December), charged with aggravated robbery and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
