Nine things to do in the Riverina this week (23 - 29 June)

There is a lot to see and do in Wagga this week with many stalls and many shows among other attractions.

Beginning on Friday with Anita Heiss’s book launch at the Gundagai Library and architect Rick Lindsay’s lecture, the start of the weekend looks to be insightful, thought-provoking and engaging.

Saturday will be Wagga’s busiest day this week. ADFAS’s Art, Architecture and Environmental Sustainability debate, Alliance Francaise de Wagga Wagga’s Fete de la Musique, The Allegro Youth Ballet Company’s The Four Seasons and the Amie St Clair Melanoma Annual Ball are all taking place this Saturday and offering a great variety of fun for everyone to enjoy.

On Sunday the River and Wren Market returns to the Wagga Wagga Showground while the Psychic and Wellbeing Expo takes shape at the Wagga Wagga RSL.

In terms of new releases at Forum 6 this week, there are a couple of doozies! Whether you are a fan of the popular Transformers series or looking for a date night with J-Law’s newest rom-com No Hard Feelings, (both of which received positive reviews from yours truly) there is something for everybody. If you haven’t been to the movies for a little bit, Forum 6 is still showing DC and Marvel’s latest outings in The Flash and Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse, while Pixar’s newest film Elemental is a surprisingly heartfelt family movie.

Rammed Earth is a fantastic architecture-based lecture from the managing director of Earth Structures Rick Lindsay. Raised in Wagga Wagga and specialising in the construction of rammed earth walls, Mr Lindsay will deliver his insight into sustainable building design technology and materials at the disposal of Australian architects.

BIDHI GALING BOOK LAUNCH

To celebrate the release of her book Bidhi Galing (big rain), author Anita Heiss will travel to Gundagai Library. The picture book celebrates the Wiradjuri heroes, Yarri and Jacky Jacky, of the Great Flood of Gundagai in 1852. The story is told through the eyes of a young girl who is rescued from the floods by her father.

Facilitated by ABC Riverina’s Sally Bryant, Art, Architecture and Environmental Sustainability will feature stimulating talks and engaging panel discussions with experts on sustainable living and architecture. Discussions will explore ways of shaping a greener future.

Meaning ‘World Music Day’ when translated to English, Fete de la Musique is being brought to Wagga Wagga by Alliance Francaise de Wagga Wagga. With three acts playing at the beautiful Meccanico bar, the event promises to be a fun time for those who appreciate music with a French twist.

The Allegro Youth Ballet Company is excited to present its first ballet with its new home studio, Riverina Dance Capital. Inspired by the music of Antonio Vivaldi and celebrating his classic composition, The Four Seasons, dancers will delight you with their interpretations of spring, summer, autumn and winter. The audience is sure to recognise this beautiful music and enjoy the dancing it has inspired.
