A man has died following a single-vehicle crash over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway at Alfredtown, 15 km east of Wagga Wagga, following reports of a crash around 6:20 pm on Saturday (15 April).
Police said officers from Riverina Police District found a Mitsubishi Triton utility had left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The Sturt Highway was closed for several hours due to the serious nature of the accident and to facilitate the landing of the Toll Ambulance Rescue helicopter to land on the highway safely.
The 78-year-old driver and single occupant of the vehicle were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in critical condition.
Riverina Police District established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances of the crash.
Police said the investigating officer received information that the 78-year-old man had died in the hospital on Sunday (16 April).
Police will prepare a report outlining the circumstances of the man’s death for the information of the Coroner.
