A Narrandera man has been issued with a fine after allegedly swearing at bar staff and refusing to leave a venue following a delay in being paid for his gambling wins.

Last Thursday (5 February), the 49-year-old attended a licensed premises in town for an evening out.

At about 8:45 pm, the man had a win on the horses and the lottery-like game Keno at the same time.

He attempted to withdraw his funds from the TAB machine, but it was unable to pay him immediately due to a “cooling down” period between the race ending and the tickets becoming payable. The man became frustrated and spoke to a worker at the club, demanding his money immediately.

The club employee went to make enquiries with a colleague, who advised the man of the period of delay and that he would have to wait for a few minutes before receiving his funds.

Police were informed the man allegedly became enraged and accused staff of stealing his winnings. The employees asked the man to stop such behaviour, or else he could leave.

The man is alleged to have yelled at staff and refused to go, prompting venue employees to call the police.

While waiting for police, the man was again told to leave by multiple staff members, and he eventually did.

Murrumbidgee Police officers arrived and spoke with staff.

Police then went to the home of the 49-year-old Narrandera man and spoke with him about his behaviour at the licensed premises, issuing him with two tickets for failing to leave a licensed premise and offensive behaviour.
