A 21-year-old motorcycle rider has died after colliding with a freight train in the Riverina.

Police said emergency services were called to Twigg Road, Yenda, about 18 km northeast of Griffith, at about 5:30 pm on Monday (2 September) following reports a motorcycle had collided with an eastbound freight train.

The rider died at the scene, and Murrumbidgee Police District officers have established a crime scene, with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident ongoing.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
