The countdown to Christmas is already on and Wagga Wagga RSL Club is making plans for its fourth community party.
Wagga Wagga Community Christmas Party organiser Renee Asgill said the event began in 2017, when the club turned 70.
“We had a massive birthday celebration, which was really successful,” Renee said.
“Then we thought, why don’t we just turn this into an annual event? It’s a great way to give back to our members and celebrate the festive season each year.”
This year’s event will be held at the RSL on Friday, 9 December, from 5 pm to 9 pm.
With kids’ amusements, live music and performances, Christmas craft activities and more, Renee said there was something for everyone to enjoy.
“The party will be set up on the greens, where members have access to a variety of local food vendors and seating areas to enjoy some live music by Triple Threat, Spaul Street and Radio Velvet,” she said.
“There will be a range of activities for the kids, including face painting, a giant slide, a ball pit, a jumping castle and Christmas bauble making.
“There will be a Christmas craft corner, including the bubble fairy and a special visit from Santa.
“We will also be running our annual fireworks at 9 pm, and they will be followed by an after-party in the Sports Bar with live music from the band Hidden Thief.
“It’s a really fun family event where everyone can just come and relax, while supporting local businesses and spending time with your family.”
The pre-COVID events attracted about 600 people but with the 2021 event cancelled due to the pandemic, Renee said she was unsure how big a crowd to expect this year.
“The event is held out on the bowling greens, which is quite a big area,” she said.
“One section will have the amusements and kids’ activities, and the other will host the food and beverage areas including the pop-up bar.”
The food vendors include Pear Chinese, 3 Dutchies, Raven and Unicorn and Slinky Spuds. Smoked meat will also be available from the RSL club’s pop-up kitchen.
“The Christmas party is a great way for the club to get its existing and new members together, and for them to enjoy some time with their families,” Renee said.
