A Yanco L-plate driver who allegedly accelerated away from police when caught speeding, crashed through a private homeowner’s fence and escaped on foot earlier this month was found and arrested three weeks later.
At 7:53 pm on 1 February, police detected a blue Nissan ute allegedly travelling at 64 km/h in a 50 km/h zone in Darlington Point.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it allegedly accelerated away and a pursuit was commenced with the driver entering a national park, before returning to residential streets and onto the Sturt Highway.
The driver then allegedly went down a dirt driveway of a private property before allegedly crashing through a fence, causing significant damage and cost to the homeowner.
The driver allegedly fled on foot in bushland and was not apprehended by the police at that stage.
At 11:05 am on 20 February, officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command arrested a 19-year-old Yanco resident who is the holder of a learner’s licence.
He was conveyed to Griffith Police Station and charged with not stopping for police, driving dangerously, entering a premises without a lawful excuse, destroying or damaging property, injuring an animal while driving and failing to alleviate pain.
He will face Griffith Local Court on Wednesday (26 March).
