A female librarian was allegedly struck with a bottle and a man was seriously injured in separate alleged attacks in Albury, with a 43-year-old man now facing court.

Police were called to Dean Street just before 1 pm on Wednesday (2 September) after reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District were told an unknown man had allegedly assaulted a 43-year-old female worker inside the Albury Library on Kiewa Street at about noon.

The man allegedly threatened the woman before striking her with a bottle and leaving the scene.

She suffered minor injuries and did not require further treatment.

A short time later, a 42-year-old man was allegedly assaulted outside a shopping complex on Kiewa Street.

He suffered serious injuries to his leg and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Albury Base Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police were told the man allegedly harassed two additional members of the public nearby.

Following inquiries, a 43-year-old man was arrested shortly thereafter on Dean Street.

He was taken to Albury Police Station and charged with common assault and reckless grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and reappeared in Bail Division Local Court 5 on Thursday (3 September).
