With the Australian federal election just 12 days away, Riverina voters can head to the pre-polls tomorrow (22 April) to vote early for who they would like to see lead the country for the next three years.

While the election date is set for Saturday 3 May, pre-polling begins on Tuesday and will run up to and including Friday 2 May.

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) allows you to vote early if on polling day you:

  • are outside the electorate where you are enrolled to vote
  • are more than 8 km from a polling place
  • are travelling
  • are unable to leave your workplace to vote
  • are seriously ill, infirm or due to give birth shortly (or caring for someone who is)
  • are a person with disability (or caring for someone who is)
  • are a patient in hospital and can’t vote at the hospital
  • have religious beliefs that prevent you from attending a polling place
  • are in prison serving a sentence of less than three years or otherwise detained
  • are a silent elector
  • have a reasonable fear for your safety or wellbeing.
