Cootamundra resident Karla Hagstorm had a murky end to the week, with brown water pouring into her bathtub.
Ms Hagstorm posted on the Cootamundra Matters Facebook page to ask if any other residents were facing similar problems with dirty water last Friday.
“I’ve never seen it this dark, but I’m sure as heck not going to bathe in that,” Karla posted.
“I rang council because I was worried it was our pipes, but they said the water company was aware of it and was coming to fix it. I was worried we might be up for a hefty repair bill.
“I hope it gets sorted soon because I’m not going to drink it either.”
Resident Helen Clack also had the same issue.
Another resident, Mark Salmon, claimed the water colour had been similar on Adams Street since Monday.
“The dogs won’t even drink it,” he said.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council water and sewer foreman Daryl Kelly said the water colour was not a major cause for concern.
“It was just a busted pipe and they got a bit of dirty water,” Mr Kelly said.
Mr Kelly told Region that busted pipes were becoming less common after upgrades to the water mains.
“We’ve got about 24 cases of [water] mains replaced, and things are getting a lot better now,” Mr Kelly said.
“We’ve got more new mains getting replaced after Christmas, so it’s getting better and better.”
In 2018, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council partnered with Killard Infrastructure to replace the water mains in Cootamundra and put an end to the discoloured water and frequent pipe bursts.
