Wagga Wagga’s long-rumoured fifth McDonald’s restaurant has officially been given an opening date.
Upon releasing expressions of interest for positions at the new restaurant, McDonald’s Boorooma licensee Tony Aichinger confirmed the store would open in summer.
“We’re thrilled to be opening our new restaurant in Boorooma in December and can’t wait to open our doors to customers and the community,” he said.
“McDonald’s has been a part of the Wagga Wagga community for more than 25 years, employing thousands of people, serving up a locally sourced menu and providing convenient destinations for customers looking for great everyday value and those iconic Macca’s moments.
“We’re on the lookout for new crew members to join the team, so contact us today if you’re interested!”
Estella resident and Charles Sturt University student Deanna Minogue said the Boorooma store would “100 per cent” attract uni students and families looking to avoid cooking dinner.
“It will be super popular, there’s no doubting that one bit,” she said.
“I know I will definitely be ordering iced lattes regularly, and other members of my household who study will be taking advantage of it.
“There are no other fast-food options out this way aside from Domino’s, so for families who don’t want to pay for delivery but also don’t want to cross the Gobba Bridge, it will be huge.”
Despite her intentions to make the most of the new Maccas, Deanna did express that a fifth store in Wagga Wagga was “a bit ridiculous”.
“For a lot of people out this way, not having a fast-food store out here was a good thing in terms of eating healthy,” she said.
“I know several families who live out in Estella who would make dinner regularly because it would take more effort to travel; I’m not sure that will be the case once the store opens in December.
“While it is a bit ridiculous to have five stores in a city of 60,000 people, it does make sense to have one close to the uni and in a new residential area that is growing at the rate that Boorooma and Estella are.”
The announcement of the new McDonald’s store comes only two weeks after Oporto announced it would open its first store in Wagga in late June.
