A 60-year-old Kooringal man has been denied bail following an alleged stabbing in Wagga Wagga.
Owen Rolf Flottmann, also known as Owen Nixon, appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court via an audiovisual link from Junee Correctional Centre on Monday (26 August), charged with wounding a person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police alleged Flottmann stabbed a 55-year-old man who was using a public toilet on Thursday (22 August) between 3:55 pm and 4 pm.
Police and emergency services were called to the Bonds Outlet store on Baylis Street following reports of a stabbing.
On arrival, Riverina Police District officers found the victim with a stab wound to his head.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him for injuries to his eye and nose, and stab wounds to his neck and leg, before taking him to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers cordoned off an area outside the store and the adjacent Wiradjuri Walkway on the western side of Wagga’s main street.
They established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Their inquiries led to Flottmann’s arrest at a Sherwood Avenue, Kooringal, address that night.
Magistrate Don McLennan said the victim sustained a “10-centimetre laceration to the neck”.
Magistrate McLennan said Flottmann’s charge was a “serious offence”, and that he had shown “some degree of planning and effort not to get detected following the stabbing”.
He said Flottmann, as a 60-year-old, had “stability in his life”.
Magistrate McLennan formally denied Flottmann’s bail application and adjourned the matter until 23 October at Wagga Wagga Local Court.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
