Underwear and lubricant have unexpectedly put the Albury-Wodonga Motorcycle Club in the national spotlight – just days before the club welcomes some of Australia’s best dirt track motorcycle racers to Diamond Park.
The club posted CCTV images – viewed more than 300,000 times online – of a late-night intruder who allegedly stole a broom, made a mess of the toilets and left underwear and lubricant behind.
Now, with the mystery man’s moment of internet fame beginning to fade, the club is preparing for something it would much rather be known for – hosting rounds three and four of the 2026 Aussie Flat Track Nationals.
Albury-Wodonga Motorcycle Club treasurer Kate Morey said the club had been overwhelmed by the response to its tongue-in-cheek appeal for help identifying the alleged culprit.
“We’ve haven’t identified the culprit, but decided that he can just keep the broom,” Ms Morey said.
“It was outside my jurisdiction fortunately; the boys disposed of it.
“Our post was viewed more than 300,000 times; it went nuts.”
The incident, which was reported to police, even saw Wodonga surge to number four in the week’s viral Shit Towns of Australia power rankings.
But the club is now hoping the attention turns to what happens on the track when the Yamaha Aussie Flat Track Nationals rolls into Diamond Park on 29 and 30 August.
The two-day national championship event will see riders travel from across Australia to compete across junior and senior classes, with Saturday featuring traditional flat track racing before the action switches to the more technical TT layout on Sunday.
The Wodonga rounds will feature Pro 450, Junior Lites, Junior 85 and All Powers Over 35s, while the popular Pro Twins class will also compete on Saturday.
Racing is scheduled from 3 to 8 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
The series features qualifying, three-row six-bike grids and four races per round, with races ranging from six to 15 laps.
For spectators, it means plenty of racing rather than a single feature event.
Local rider Jed Fyffe will arrive at his home rounds as the championship leader. The Jindera teenager has already made a name for himself in Australia and overseas, and is coming off an extraordinary opening weekend of the 2026 AFTN season at Maryborough.

He heads into Wodonga leading the Junior Lites championship, with his long-running rivalry against Queenslander Neiko Donovan set to resume on home soil.
“It’s incredible that we have this again here in Albury,” Ms Morey said.
“It shows you’re on the map when you’re asked to host national events.”
The Albury-Wodonga Motorcycle Club was established in 1970 and remains one of the region’s few multidisciplinary motorcycle clubs, providing opportunities for riders across different forms of the sport.
The club is expecting a strong crowd for the weekend and is encouraging locals who have never experienced flat track racing to come along.
“Tickets are available online, canteen will be open and you can really make a day of it,” Ms Morey said.
The Aussie Flat Track Nationals will be held at Diamond Park, Albury-Wodonga, on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August. Adult tickets are $20, children aged six to under 16 are $10, children under six are free and a family pass for two adults and two children is $50 per round. Tickets are available online.
