Two 12-year-old boys have been charged over alleged break-ins at a Griffith home and a caravan park earlier this week.
Police allege the boys broke into a home on Taylor Road at about 3:45 am on Saturday 9 May while a man and woman were asleep inside and stole a number of items.
The boys ran from the home when the male occupant confronted them, police allege.
Police further allege the keys to two vehicles were stolen from a cabin at a caravan park on Willandra Avenue at about 3 am on Tuesday 12 May.
Four people were asleep inside the cabin at the time and were not disturbed.
Officers attached to the Murrumbidgee Police District began investigating both incidents.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 12-year-old boy at a Griffith home at about 9:15 am on Tuesday.
A second 12-year-old boy was arrested later that afternoon in Griffith’s CBD.
Both boys were taken to Griffith Police Station.
The first boy was charged with six offences, including breaking into a home while people were inside, entering a vehicle without permission, trespassing and possessing tools used to break into or steal vehicles.
The second boy was charged with breaking into a home while people were inside.
Both boys were refused bail and are due to appear before a children’s court on Wednesday (14 May).
Police said the allegedly stolen vehicles had since been recovered and undergone forensic examination.
Investigations are continuing.
