A 12-year-old boy will face a children’s court after being charged over an alleged break and enter at a community centre under construction in south Griffith.
Police were alerted about 12.30pm on Saturday, July 25, to reports that three young boys had allegedly entered the site in Thomas Place – which is part of the affordable housing project known as Griffin Green.
The boys allegedly stole a coil of electrical wiring, spray-painted items and smashed a window before leaving the area on foot.
A short time later, officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District were patrolling nearby Walla Avenue when they saw three young boys.
Police allege the boys ran through a unit block and into Garton Place, where they were apprehended.
A 12-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with three offences: aggravated break and enter with intent to commit a serious indictable offence, destroying or damaging property, and stealing.
He was also issued a Court Attendance Notice in relation to an alleged break-in at a church in Condobolin on July 22.
The boy was refused bail and is due to appear before a children’s court on Sunday, July 26.
Inquiries are continuing into the other two boys, aged 12 and eight, who were also apprehended by police.
