Tumut High School captain and swimming sensation Edward Dodds has capped off another big year, receiving the Ampol NSW Best All Rounder Award for 2023.

Eddie has graduated from year 12 and is as accomplished academically as he is in the pool, having won medals at the previous three CHS State Championships.

The All Rounder Award goes to a year 12 student involved in a broad range of school and community activities, such as academic, sporting, cultural or school service, and recognises leadership, service and community, sport, arts and culture, attitude and personal conduct.

As well as swimming, Eddie referees soccer and basketball and is recognised as a role model in the school and the local community.

“Eddie has been an outstanding student during his six years at Tumut High School,” said Tumut High principal Brad Taylor.

“He has consistently demonstrated exceptional personal qualities.

“Eddie is a true all-rounder: academically gifted, talented sportsperson, a leader with strong values and committed to supporting his community.”

The prize comes with a $2000 cash grant, a $1000 AmpolCash gift card, and a $2000 grant for Tumut High.

More than 2000 high schools nationally take part in the program and this is the second year that Ampol has recognised state and national best all-rounder winners for their achievements.

“Whether it’s endeavours in arts and culture, on the sporting field, in the classroom or within their own communities, we are delighted to celebrate our 2023 Ampol Best All Rounder Award state recipients,” said Ampol managing director and CEO Matt Halliday.

“Everyone at Ampol wishes to congratulate our state and national winners for their well-deserved accolade.”

At the year 12 final assembly, Eddie also received the Australian Defence Force Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award.

This accolade recognises students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork in both their school and the broader local community and display strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others, and mateship.

In his school captain’s message at the start of 2023, Eddie urged other students to “get involved” to make the most of their time at Tumut High.

“I would like to encourage all students to put yourself out there and try new things and along the way meet new people,” he said.

”By doing that, you will get the most out of high school.”
