After providing grants to 116 not-for-profit organisations and groups including the Wagga Mardi Gras and Carevan Wagga in 2023, energy giant Transgrid will be awarding even more in 2024.

A community grants information day will be held at Transgrid’s Discovery Hub in Wagga on 11 September which will give not-for-profit organisations including charities, sporting clubs, welfare services, bushfire brigades, neighbourhood centres, Aboriginal land councils, schools, environmental and arts groups the chance to learn about funding opportunities.

Executive General Manager of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs Maryanne Graham said: “Not-for-profit groups across the Riverina provide invaluable services, facilities, activities and events that provide invaluable contributions to their local communities, and we’re delighted to be able to support their important work.

“Transgrid is delivering the critical infrastructure and priority projects identified by the Commonwealth and NSW governments to enable Australia’s clean energy transition,” she said.

“Communities across the Riverina are at the heart of the renewable energy transformation and we are committed to maximising the positive social and economic benefits across the region.

“Not-for-profit groups across the Riverina will be welcomed to our Discovery Hub to find out more about Transgrid’s Community Partnerships Program as well as other funding opportunities and organisations offering support and learn how to increase their chances of securing grants by putting forward the best possible application.”

One of last year’s recipients was the Wagga Wagga Combined Hockey Association, which is using the funding awarded by Transgrid to provide a much-need facility upgrade at Jubilee Park. The plans for the works are underway with an entertainment facility, which includes a barbecue and a bar, to be installed in the future.

“The challenge for us is that hockey is often seen as a tier two sport and tier one sports such as AFL, soccer and rugby seem to get the first point of call,” Wagga Wagga Combined Hockey Association Facilities Manager Ken Larkin said.

“Post-COVID, everyone is looking for a lot of financial support and we’ve got a lot of competition for what grants are on offer.

“I am looking forward to attending the Community Grants Day to learn more about the funding on offer from non-government organisations such as Transgrid and how best to frame my application to meet their grant program objectives.”

The Community Grants Day will be held on 11 September at the Transgrid Discovery Hub, 27 Kincaid Street, Wagga Wagga, with two sessions, from 3-5 pm and 6-8 pm.

The event will drive awareness of funding opportunities with a range of organisations and provide practical advice to help community groups align projects with grant program objectives and provide the right information in their applications.

The event is free of charge for the community and will be filled on a first-served basis. The workshop will also be available online for those who cannot attend in person.
