The calendar has turned the page on another month, the festive countdown has begun in earnest and the Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has revealed the winners of his 11th annual Christmas card design competition.
Working with the theme ”We Wish you a Riverina Christmas”, more than 1000 youngsters in kindergarten and Years 1 and 2 from across the region delivered a creative take on our December holiday and what they love about their home town.
This year’s winning design was submitted by eight-year-old South Wagga Public School student Billy Macleod.
“Well done to all students who entered the competition,” Mr McCormack said.
“Billy’s first-place drawing of Santa Claus driving a front-end loader, delivering presents with the bucket, was a unique take which deserves praise for its creativity.”
Seven-year-old Isabelle Elwin, from The Rock Central School, was the runner-up while fellow first-grader Isabelle Patterson from St Brendan’s Primary in Ganmain claimed third place.
Each student will receive a certificate to recognise their efforts in this year’s competition.
“Each of the three winning entries will soon receive a commemorative book prize, and I extend my thanks to school teachers, staff and students who helped create another successful Christmas card competition,” Mr McCormack said.
“I am excited to send this year’s Christmas card to community members and my parliamentary colleagues to showcase the wonderful art each of the three winning students created.
“It is always a delight to look at all the competition entries arriving in the office and to be reminded of what a magical time of year this is for children across the Riverina and Central West.”
The results were:
