Griffith residents are being urged to secure their tickets quickly after the city beat dozens of regional rivals to host Triple J’s One Night Stand for the first time.
The ABC’s travelling music festival will roll into Griffith Showground on Saturday 5 September, bringing five of Australia’s biggest acts for an all-ages, drug and alcohol-free event expected to attract up to 15,000 people.
This year’s line-up features indie rock favourites DMA’S, award-winning hip-hop star Genesis Owusu, electronic producer Ninajirachi, pop singer-songwriter MAY-A and Queensland rock band Beddy Rays.
DMA’S have built an international following with hits including Delete and Silver, while Genesis Owusu won the Australian Music Prize and multiple ARIA Awards for his genre-blending music.
MAY-A has become one of Australia’s fastest-rising pop artists after collaborating with Flume and touring with some of the country’s biggest acts. Ninajirachi is regarded as one of Australia’s most exciting electronic producers, while Beddy Rays have developed a loyal fan base with their surf-rock anthems and energetic live shows.
“Tickets are expected to be sold out within 24 hours, so you better get in quick,” Griffith Councillor Shari Blumer said.
“Tickets cost just $15 for adults and $10 for children, so when you compare it to say Taylor Swift, it’s very affordable.”

Earlier this year, Triple J invited regional communities across Australia to pitch why they should host One Night Stand. Rather than choosing the biggest town, the broadcaster assesses applications based on factors including community support, a compelling local story, suitable infrastructure and the town’s ability to stage a major event.
Cr Blumer said the council lodged an application alongside submissions from several local residents.
“I think the diversity of Griffith was a key factor in us being chosen, we are the most multicultural town in Australia,” Ms Blumer said.
“Griffith has also shown we are capable of supporting big events, that would have also counted in our favour.”
Griffith Tourism manager Mirella Guidolin said her team had been pursuing the event for several years.
“Two years ago, we were very close, we were probably the runner-up,” she said.
“We were told in February that we would get it and we have been working behind the scenes to do a lot to get things organised. It’s a real moment of pride for our community. We had heaps of people come to get pre-sale tickets this morning.
“To be able to bring it here, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It hasn’t been to NSW in more than a decade, when it was in Dubbo in 2013. I’d urge locals to jump online and get tickets quickly.
“There’ll be plenty of shuttle buses on the day. We’ll be keeping everyone updated on the Visit Griffith page.”
The annual festival has previously been held in regional centres including Busselton, Warrnambool, St Helens, Alice Springs and Dubbo.
One Night Stand will be held at 2 pm on Saturday 5 September at the Griffith Showground. Tickets are available online.
