Riverina police say three people have been barred for life from licensed venues as a result of several alcohol-related assaults in Wagga last weekend.
They say local licensees put their foot down at a bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday (22 November), with three people, aged 24, 22 and 19, being barred for life from licensed premises in the Wagga Wagga Liquor Accord area.
The trio will be issued with barring notices by police and will be given the chance to put their case forward to licensees if they seek to have their exclusion reviewed.
A further 10 people were barred for periods of between three months and three years after being involved in several incidents over the past two months involving violence, drug activity and minors entering licensed premises.
Police say the licensees should be congratulated on their stance.
“It highlights they strive to provide a fun, safe environment for their patrons and will not tolerate violence or other illicit or inappropriate behaviours by patrons,” Riverina Police District said in a statement.
“Local licensees and police want patrons to enjoy the company of their family, friends and colleagues without the fear of being assaulted, abused or harassed. Local licensees and their staff do their best to ensure this happens.”
The message to the public is clear: if you are a patron of licensed premises in Wagga Wagga and you engage in violence or other inappropriate behaviour inside and/or near the venue, you will be held accountable for your actions by licensees.
