He’s pointing the finger at you. Yes, you.

Think you can direct? Or have you ever wanted to try? Lead director of the Wagga School of Arts Ian Wright wants you to come along to a crash course in directing Friday night, and it’s free.

“We have a number of really talented performers and performing artists here in Wagga, but a lot of people are uncomfortable taking on a more lead directorial role showing their vision,” Mr Wright said.

Making things more interesting is the amazing history of Wagga’s performing arts scene.

“We have the longest running short play festival in the world,” Mr Wright said.

“It’s really fantastic and it’s called “The 10 x 10” and we love to have new people join in and take on one of those as a director.”

The 10 x 10 features 10 plays, that run for 10 minutes.

“They’re really short and they’re really sweet but a lot of people are intimidated by the idea of directing,” Mr Wright said.

“So with that in mind, we are offering a free directorial workshop on Friday which will cover some basics so that people feel more confident coming in taking a show and really showing us what their vision is for the stages,” he said.

DETAILS:
The free Directors Workshop is being held on Friday 28 March at the Scout Hall in Mathoura Avenue, Mt Austin.
TIME:
Start time is 7 pm and finish time is 8:30 pm.
WHO:
The presenter is Iain Wright, the Riverina’s well-known, award-winning actor and director.
Also attending is president of SoACT Lee Kennedy.

No experience is necessary.

The last word has to go to the director, Ian Wright.

“I’m super excited to be doing it; we want as many people as possible,” he said.

“It’s nice and short so it is a bit of a crash course into directing and there is support afterwards for anyone who wants assistance. And if it’s successful, we’re looking at possibly doing a longer form workshop as well.”
