The long weekend is almost here and we’ve found the best events across the next week to keep you busy, no matter what you’re after.
For the artistic, there’s an exciting new exhibition at the Murray Art Museum showing an artist’s fascinating exploration of one person’s place in a complex world, and for those who want to get a more hands-on experience, the MAMA also hosts its sketch club this week, bringing artists together from across the region to create and learn together.
Parents can look forward to the Imagine Live show at The Cube, an exciting performance bringing a bestselling children’s book to life with multimedia elements, live music and audience participation.
For health nuts wanting to start the weekend on the right foot, there are ice baths and breathing workshops to get your mind right and rested for the three-day weekend.

I saw eternity the other night – art exhibition

Beth Peters’ exhibition I saw eternity the other night shows off an intricate and personal series of works, combining her interests in pattern and weaving as an expression of the individual in the context of an infinitely complex world.
Appearing almost like a geometric Rorschach test, Beth Peters’ work sucks the viewer into a hypnotic, enigmatic world of interwoven shapes, shades and negative space.
Though her works have the precision of something created artificially, these incredible pieces are made by hand and there is so much detail to get lost in.

Across the long weekend, head to the Wagga Civic Theatre for a stacked schedule of comedy greats as some of Australia’s most side-splitting performers descend on the Riverina.
Comedians Dave Hughes, Melanie Bracewell, Luke McGregor, Sammy J and many more will be gracing the stage at the Civic Theatre to make the long weekend that much better.
Whether you’re after classic Aussie humour with Hughesy’s WTF?, hilarious explorations of cultural taboos in Brown Women Comedy or one woman’s retrospective on her 20s in Melanie Bracewell’s A Little Treat, there’s something here for you.

Sketch Club at the Murray Art Museum Albury

If you need that little push to start sketching or drawing, the sketch club at the MAMA is a great way to get the motivation to create.
By surrounding yourself with like-minded artists and the many beautiful works of the MAMA, you’ll be inspired to respond to works, dive deep into techniques, find details or just sharpen the skills you already have.
This monthly class begins with a brief introduction to a current exhibition from the gallery’s host, who goes on to share drawing techniques for context and consideration by you, the amateur artist.

Hope for Ukraine – Dinner in support of Ukraine
When: 6 June, 6 to 11 pm
Where: La Maison Restaurant, 40 Lincoln Causeway, Gateway Island

The Rotary Club of Albury Wodonga is hosting a dinner in support of Ukraine at La Maison Restaurant.
Tickets include a beautiful three-course dinner, complimentary beer and wine, live music and dancing, all in support of Ukraine.
The dinner will feature an auction of goods and services donated by the local community.

Sunday Blues at Piccolo Family Farm

Everyone loves a long weekend but the question is what to do when one finally gets here.
The Piccolo Family Farm has that sorted with live music by Murrumbidgee Jazz and Blues Collective, wood-fired pizza by Limone Dining and a fully stocked bar by Caro Piccolo.
There’s no better way to spend a long weekend than to tap along to great tunes and have a few drinks in the sun.

Breathwork and Ice-bath
When: 8 June, 3 to 5 pm
Where: WaterWorks, Boundary Rd, East Albury

Looking to test your resilience to the cold and gain some significant health benefits along the way?
This weekly event is a health and wellbeing class with a 25-minute session on breathwork, teaching the art of mindful relaxation and helping to calm the mind and remove worries.
Immediately following the breathwork class, those who are game enough can plunge into the ice bath, which has a range of mental and physical benefits such as stress reduction, reducing inflammation, lessening depression and anxiety and enhancing recovery.
Ice bathers and meditators should bring a yoga mat, towel, swimmers, water bottle, warm clothes and a blanket.
The organisers advise against participation if you are pregnant, epileptic, have high blood pressure or heart issues.

Imagine Live at The Cube

Imagine Live is an exciting read-through of Alison Lester’s iconic best-selling book Imagine, incorporating mixed-media elements such as digital puppetry, animation, original music and audience participation to create a fun, novel experience of a beloved children’s book.
Spot leopards, swim with dolphins or dig up dino bones as Imagine comes to life.
This performance is all about excitement, creativity, joy and the natural world; it’s bound to be a fun event for all ages.

Riverina Conservatorium of Music Rising Stars

Showcasing the talent of some of RCM’s outstanding alumni and scholarship students, the Rising Stars concert gives attendees the chance to listen to some of the best young up-and-coming musicians in the Riverina.
Including a range of musical styles and disciplines from classical to contemporary, this concert is an exciting celebration of the best musical talent in the area.
