There’s a lot to get excited about in the Riverina this week, with new art exhibitions, two town festivals, a lot of live music and an aviation showcase featuring historic warplanes.
The Temora Aviation September Showcase will be a real treat this year, with all sorts of historic aircraft to spark your interest. History buffs will especially love the RAAF Supermarine Spitfire on display.
HayGlow, Hay’s yearly festival, is back with lanterns on the lake, live music, markets and even a special event where the whole town gets to open a time capsule.
All this, as well as the best live music from across the Riverina – from blues to symphonic, folk and everything in between. Don’t miss out on this exciting week in the Riverina.

Miniacs – A community exhibition of tiny artworks
When: 19 to 25 September, during normal gallery hours

Inspired by the “free little gallery movement”, Miniacs brings a whole lot of creativity to Hyphen on a smaller scale.
Ten exhibition spaces are filled with mini masterpieces created by local artists and the community from a series of hands-on workshops. The exhibition invites people to experience art made by community members, who have worked within the confines of a tiny canvas to create some beautiful pieces with big ideas.

Riverina Long Lunch and Good Food Weekend

The Riverina Long Lunch and Good Food Weekend is a celebration of the best food, wine, cocktails and fresh produce that the region can muster.
Hosted by Farm Door Riverina, this weekend has a bit of something for everyone across two days of great food and wine. Visitors can enjoy live music, great locally made food, floral workshops, chocolate tours and cocktail trails, as well as meet with the producers who make all of the wonderful things to eat and savour.
It’s a great reason to get out and about under an open sky, with fresh air and the smell of open fires cooking great food.

Festival of Gundagai

The Festival of Gundagai is coming back this year, celebrating the community through light, with large-scale projections, roaming performances and light installations.
There will be heaps of live music, dance performances, storytelling, as well as regional produce on offer, gourmet street food and local wines to get you into the community spirit.
This year’s festival is set to light up the whole town – don’t miss out this Friday.

Blues Guitar Roadshow at the Wagga Civic Theatre

The Blues Guitar Roadshow is bringing a full fleet of blues musicians and guitar specialists to Wagga to play their hearts out.
With sold-out shows and satisfied audiences across the country, the Blues Guitar Roadshow is a celebration of soul and skill in the blues genre, featuring musicians Lloyd Spiegel, Geoff Achison, Wilbur Wilde, The McNaMarr Project (Andrea Marr/John McNamara), Corey Legge and more.

Temora Aviation September Showcase

The Temora Aviation September Showcase is set to be a great day for aviation enthusiasts, history buffs or novices who just want to get out and about and listen to the roar of the engines.
This September’s showcase will feature a line-up of serviceable aircraft from RAAF 100 Squadron’s Historic Flight Collection, which includes a Supermarine Spitfire, a Lockheed Hudson (a light bomber), a de Havilland Tiger Moth, a Ryan STM S2, as well as other visiting aircraft.
Flying displays start at 11:30 am, alongside commentary about the machines flying overhead. In addition, the day will also feature guided tours of the planes while they’re on the ground, interviews with the pilots and a full motion flight simulator available to book for a fee.
There will also be coffee and food available, though visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics.

HayGlow and the Opening of the St Paul’s Time Capsule
When: 20 September, 1 pm
Where: Hay Park – Pond Area, Corner Pine and Morgan St, Hay
Cost: Free.
This year’s HayGlow Festival is going to be a special one, with markets, live music and lantern workshops. The Hay Park Pond will be lit up with lanterns depicting turtles, suns, stars, rainbows, Murray cod and a special surprise. There will also be great food and visitors are welcome to bring along a picnic.
This special festival will also feature the opening of the St Paul’s time capsule, which has been sealed for a quarter of a century. Take a glimpse into Australia at the turn of the century this Saturday.

Symphonic Sounds – Riverina Conservatorium of Music

This performance combines the best musical talent in the Riverina. The evening will begin with a combined performance from the RC Student Concert Band and the Riverina Concert Band, followed by the Riverina Conservatorium Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, one of classical music’s most beloved and enduring pieces. This music has been thrilling audiences for more than two centuries.
Whether you’re a big classical music fan or you just want to get out there and see what Riverina talent can do, this is a great night out.

Music in the Gardens Presents Pirritu

The Albury Gardens Spring Music in the Gardens series starts with singer-songwriter Pirritu. Pirritu’s music is melodic and emotive, while his songwriting focuses on love, loss and hope, inspired by his own personal and cultural journey.
Music in the Gardens transforms the Albury Gardens into an open community space, with performances as well as food and drink for sale. Visitors are welcome to bring chairs or a picnic rug as they enjoy the music in the sunshine.
