There’s a whole lot going on across the Riverina this week, with plenty of races, live music, stage performances, markets and more.

Bell Shakespeare will visit the Griffith Regional Theatre with a special performance of Romeo and Juliet – the classic story of forbidden love ending in tragedy.

Musician Matthew Garvie will put on a special concert of classical music made to evoke the sounds of a storm. Using the guiding themes of thunder, rain and wind, Garvie will create a special atmosphere using nothing but his skill as a musician.

The students of Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School will tell the story of Roald Dahl’s Matilda in a special musical rendition of the much-loved children’s story.

Wagga Carnival of Cups

The Carnival of Cups is a night of racing, entertainment, great food and plenty of fun.

Cheer on your lucky pick as they race towards the finish line, all while listening to the music of Ian Moss – co-founder of Cold Chisel – as well as The Superjesus, 1927 and local performers.

And of course, there will be plenty of food and drink. It’s free to enter – don’t miss out this week.

This alt-rock/country music powerhouse is coming to the Tumut River Brewing Company for a night of great tunes and cold beers.

Kingswood have been widely recognised across Australia for their musical talent, with ARIA-topping albums, platinum records, positions on the Hottest 100 and main stage appearances at Splendour in the Grass.

This is a great opportunity to see one of the biggest bands in the Aussie music scene up close and personal in the familiar setting of Tumut Brewing Co.

Friends and family of Zana Aerial Dance Academy are invited to join this showcase of gymnastic and acrobatic talent as students perform a unique combination of dance and gymnastics.

This showcase will have younger kids showing off spins and balance tricks, and more seasoned teenagers who have previously competed in aerial dance competitions. Students have been building their skills and style over months, if not years, and this showcase is an opportunity for them to practise their routines with an audience before they compete. Don’t miss out on this amazing display of athletic and dance talent at the Wagga Civic Theatre.

Symphonic Connections – Murray Conservatorium Concert at the Cube

This concert showcases the artistic talent of the Riverina, with a collection of artists performing a broad variety of genres such as classical, jazz and pop.

This special performance is about forging community through the shared experiences inherent to music, with a particular focus on the bond between the audience and the artist. There will be newer artists, flexing their musical muscles as well as more seasoned performers with years of practice under their belt.

The Murray Conservatorium is vital in preparing the next generation of Riverina musicians. Come see how the bonds of mentorship create amazing performances.

The talented students at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School are putting on a show this week with Matilda the Musical Jr. This production tells the beloved story with a full cast of students performing the singing, acting and dancing.

About a young girl who dares to dream of a better life, Matilda is, at its heart, about determination and standing up for what’s right in a world that may not reward that at all times.

Get ready for heartfelt performances, energetic dancing and great music.

Head to Forum 6 Cinemas for one of the most anticipated family-friendly films of the year – Wicked: For Good. In this sequel to the recent musical hit, the Wicked Witch of the West continues her life as a fugitive, straining her relationship with Glinda the Good. All ages are welcome to this premiere screening, which will help to raise funds for the Friends of the Library Wagga Wagga. Costumes are encouraged at this showing as well, so feel free to get dressed up.

This unique piano program explores the sounds of storms, using them as a guiding theme to create the atmosphere of rain and thunder through music.

Pieces to be played include Chopin’s Raindrop Prelude, evoking the subtle sound of rain, while Ballade No. 2 and Schumann’s Symphonic Etudes hint at growing energy in the air, followed by Debussy’s Pagodas, representing the feeling of calm before the terrific winds of Justin Williams’ A Storm. This is a unique concert seeking to replicate the energy and drama of the natural world through composition.
