The Temora Hospital redevelopment is a step closer, with the main works contractor appointed and work set to begin in the coming months.
Richard Crookes Construction has been awarded the contract following a competitive tender process with the redevelopment to cost around $95 million.
It will include an emergency department; an inpatient unit for flexible use for medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, and palliative care patients; birthing and nursery; an operating theatre and procedure room; allied health and ambulatory clinics with a gymnasium; community health and mental health, drug and alcohol services; and medical imaging.
New services to be delivered include an additional procedure room in the perioperative suite and expansion of the medical imaging unit to include a new ultrasound and CT service.
Improved car parking for patients, staff and visitors, as well as separate emergency and service vehicle entry, are included as part of the design.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke applauded the announcement of a contractor.
“With a builder now appointed, we’re seeing real progress on the ground,” Ms Cooke said.
“This is another step toward delivering the high quality, integrated health facility that the people of Temora have waited so long for and rightly deserve.
“This investment is about long-term health outcomes for our region.
“Whether you’re starting a family, recovering from surgery, or needing community-based care, this new facility will meet the needs of local residents now and for generations to come.”
Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said the recent update was an exciting one for the Temora community and one that would support those who needed medical aid in the Cootamundra electorate.
“This is an exciting day for Temora and the wider community. The appointment of the builder marks a major step forward in delivering the modern hospital facilities this region deserves,” he said.
“The $95 million investment will significantly improve the experience of patients, families and healthcare workers, and ensure the community can continue to access high quality health care closer to home.”
Member of the Legislative Council Stephen Lawrence said the milestone was a proud one and a step in the right direction for supporting regional medical workers.
“The Temora community has long advocated for improved health services, and this milestone is a proud moment for all of us,” he said.
“This redevelopment will deliver improved health outcomes for patients and better working conditions for health staff, while also supporting jobs and economic activity in our region throughout the construction of the redeveloped Temora Hospital.”
The redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2028.
