Police have charged a teenager after a two-vehicle fatal crash near Wagga Wagga on Saturday, 12 March.
About 8:30 pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to the intersection of Holbrook Road, Gelston Park – about 16 km south of Wagga Wagga – following reports a Nissan X-Trail and a VW Golf had collided.
The passenger of the VW Golf – a 19-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, he died at the scene.
The drivers of the VW and Nissan – a 17-year-old teenager and 46-year-old man respectively – were also treated at the scene before being taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in stable conditions.
Officers from Riverina Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.
Following inquiries, the 17-year-old was arrested on Sunday, 13 March, and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death (drive manner dangerous), cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, and negligent driving (occasioning death).
He was granted conditional bail to appear in a children’s court on Tuesday, 17 May 2022.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
