Two teenagers have lost their licences over alleged speeding offences in the Riverina on the weekend.

On Saturday (7 June), at about 11:50 am, a 19-year-old P-plate rider was allegedly detected by police riding his orange Kawasaki motorcycle along the Kidman Way in Coleambally at 188 km/h.

The male was stopped by an officer and issued with a notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h. The speed limit on that highway is 100 km/h. His licence was immediately suspended.

His motorbike registration was also suspended and the registration plates returned to road authority Transport for NSW.

On the same day, a P-plate driver was allegedly caught speeding in Moombooldool, a small town near Barellan.

At about 7:55 am, a 19-year-old was allegedly detected driving a silver Toyota RAV4 along the Burley Griffin Way at 153 km/h. The male was stopped by officers and issued with a notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h. He also lost his licence.

NSW Police have the power to issue a licence suspension on the roadside for any driver caught speeding by more than 45 km/h over the speed limit.

Police also have the right to impound a vehicle or confiscate a vehicle’s number plates.
