A teenager in West Wyalong has had her electric scooter confiscated by police after riding it on a road without a helmet.

Officers say they saw a 17-year-old girl hop onto an e-scooter and ride it on the roadway of Barnado Street about 4:20 pm on Saturday (14 February).

The girl was stopped by police a short time later in Grenfell Street.

Police say she rode the electric scooter through Barnado Park and onto the roadway of Grenfell Street.

At the time, she was not wearing a helmet.

It is illegal to ride an e-scooter in NSW on a public road or footpath, even while wearing a helmet. The vehicles can only be used on private property.

The girl had allegedly been warned several times about riding the electric scooter on the roadway, and told that if she continued the practice, she would lose it.

The scooter was seized by police when she was stopped on Saturday.

The girl was issued with two infringement notices for using an unregistered registrable class motor vehicle on the road ($844) and riding an e-scooter while not wearing an approved bicycle helmet securely fitted and fastened ($423).
