A dog that made its way into the Wagga Wagga Police Station last week is still looking for its owner.
Named Steve by local police, the stray canine started the new year by making his way to the police station on 2 January.
The Riverina Police District is now looking for the owner of Steve, who spent a night aiding officers by manning the station and eventually sleeping at the feet of a sergeant.
“We are not sure what his name is, but he is currently being called ‘Steve’ and is hanging out at Wagga Police Station,” Riverina Police District posted to its socials on 2 January.
“Please contact us if you can help us reunite him with his owners. 69222599.
“We will check for microchips in the morning and he will go to Glenfield Road Animal Shelter if his owner is not found overnight. But he is happy being the station dog tonight.”
The police then gave an update on Steve’s whereabouts, confirming he had been taken to Lake Road Veterinary Clinic before arriving at the local animal shelter.
“After Steve spent the night at the Sarge’s feet, he was taken to Lake Road Veterinary Clinic this morning and is being cared for there at present,” the updated post reads.
Region contacted Wagga Wagga City Council to check whether Steve has been claimed. The council confirmed the adventurous dog was still at the Glenfield Road Animal Shelter as of Monday (5 January), but provided no further comment or information.
