A stolen Nissan Patrol allegedly led police on a high-speed chase through Leeton and a citrus orchard before police found it hidden under cut branches the following day.
The gold Patrol was allegedly stolen from a property on Collins Road, Griffith, in the early hours of Friday, 25 September.
Police say they spotted the vehicle at about 4:20 pm that afternoon in the McDonald’s drive-through at Leeton.
Officers approached the Patrol and instructed the driver to stop, but police will allege the driver instead drove towards them, forcing the officers to move out of the vehicle’s path.
Police then launched a pursuit through several streets in Leeton and into a citrus orchard.
Police allege the Patrol returned to the roadway and was driven at high speed before the pursuit was terminated.
Police did not locate the vehicle until the following afternoon.
At about 3:20 pm on Saturday, 26 September, police attended an address on Darling Road at Wamoon and allegedly spotted the 32-year-old driver.
Police will allege the man ran into a vacant block after seeing officers, where he was arrested.
Police also found the stolen gold Nissan Patrol in the vacant block, allegedly hidden under cut branches.
The man was taken to Griffith Police Station and charged with driving a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent; using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention; failing to stop for police and driving dangerously during a police pursuit; driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period; and goods in custody suspected of being stolen.
Police refused bail and the man appeared before Bail Division Court 5 on Sunday, 27 September, where he was again refused bail.
He is due to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday, 30 September.
