An 18-year-old man from Beelbangera has copped a $1805 fine and lost his licence after police allegedly caught him doing a burnout on a roundabout on Watkins Avenue in Griffith.
Inspector Glenn Smith informed Region the incident occurred around 9 pm on Saturday (11 May).
Police allegedly observed a black Holden utility enter a five-way roundabout before the vehicle’s engine was heard revving loudly and the vehicle had an extended period of loss of traction – commonly called a ‘burnout’ – as it circled the roundabout twice. Police said the Holden “spun 180 degrees” as it continued the burnout.
Police activated their lights and sirens and pulled over the black utility and spoke with the driver, who was subsequently issued with infringement notices totalling $1805.
The man was fined for multiple alleged breaches, including operating a vehicle to cause wheels to undergo sustained loss of traction (a burnout); using a vehicle with a seatbelt missing or defective; using a vehicle and not complying with emission/silencer/noise regulations; not displaying his P-plates and not complying with P-plate licence restrictions.
Police also allege half his exhaust was missing. The vehicle was issued with a major grounded defect notice and the 18-year-old man’s licence will be suspended.
