A man will appear in Griffith court this week after alleging exposing himself to police and threatening two women with a hammer.
Acting Inspector Paul Rosano informed Region the alleged incident occurred at 8 am on Tuesday, 27 August.
Police received several calls about a male near Hay Police Station without a shirt on, allegedly talking to himself in a drug-affected state. Officers patrolled the area and located a 27-year-old male walking in the middle of Macauley Street. Police stopped and spoke with the man, who allegedly became aggressive and abusive towards police before indecently exposing himself. The man was instructed to leave the area and given a move along direction with a court attendance notice to be issued at a later date.
A short time later, police received a further call in relation to the same man pacing up and down Lindsay Street and allegedly threatening two women known to him with a hammer. Police immediately went to the street, where the man allegedly ran at the responding police vehicle and threatened them. Police exited their vehicle, drawing a Taser on the male and commenced talking with him in an attempt to calm him down. Upon the arrival of further police and the male being given a warning with the Taser, he was arrested without further incident.
He was taken to Hay Police Station where he was charged with willful and obscene exposure, two counts of stalking and intimidation, and intimidating a police officer in the execution of duty. The male was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before the Griffith Local Court on 4 September.
