One of Wagga Wagga’s premier festivals, Spring Jam, is returning to the Botanic Gardens this Saturday.
Kicking off at 10 am, the free family event is set to thrill audiences with plenty of outdoor activities, roving performers, hands-on workshops, live music and plenty of food.
“We are excited to bring a program of vibrant adventure play and interactive activities, curated to appeal to the diverse interests of children, aged two to 12 years, and their families,” Wagga Wagga City Council Events Officer Emma Corbett said.
“Make friends with the Rove ‘n’ Roar dinosaurs who will be roaming around the precinct or say ‘g’day’ to some of the furry friends from the zoo and aviary who’ll be out and about for some ‘meet and greet’ sessions.”
Ms Corbett said there would also be plenty to see and do for kids with that little bit more energy, with an obstacle course, giant soccer and plenty of other garden games making an appearance.
“There will also be plenty for kids to dance and groove along to at the main stage, with the line-up of musicians and performers including The Ukumamas, Mr Snotbottom, The Mudcakes and Emily Who,” Ms Corbett said.
“We will also have a chill-out zone for anyone wanting some quiet time and a book nook hosted by Wagga Wagga’s Agile Library.
“Spring Jam has something for everyone; it’ll be an event not to be missed.”
Ms Corbett said the performance she was most eager to see was the Ukamumas, an old-fashioned housewife duo who enjoyed teaching their audiences about the fun of being able to play the ukelele.
Following Spring Jam, some of Wagga’s older kids can enjoy a night at the Museum of the Riverina with Museum After Dark.
Council’s Youth and Community Development Officer Mel Fattore said the idea behind the Museum After Dark Event was based on feedback received by young people in the region looking to enjoy night-time activities without the presence of drugs or alcohol.
“This free event is open to all high school aged people and will be held at the Museum of the Riverina’s Botanic Gardens Site on Wiradjuri/Wiradyuri Country, kicking off from 5 pm after the Spring Jam Children’s Festival,” she said.
“The Museum After Dark program is an excellent opportunity to invite young people to the museum for a night of retro fun.”
Although the Museum After Dark event is free, it will require pre-booking. With limited spots still remaining, book your tickets here.
