ARIA Award-winning singer and songwriter Sara Storer will return to the Riverina to perform a special one-off concert in a place close to her heart.
She’ll also release her new single, Layers, at the charity fundraiser to be held in Bowna, the town where Sara, husband Dave and their young family lived for five years before relocating to Darwin in the Northern Territory.
“I loved our little farm where we lived in Bowna and it was very hard for me to leave,” Sara said.
”I love the country around Albury, I just think it is one of the most beautiful places in Australia.”
The concert, to be held on Sunday, 3 November, will be staged at Margot and Peter Hore’s Bowna property, ”Scrubby Hill”, and the afternoon will combine open gardens, walk and talks and the music of Sara with support act Laylah Baines.
“I’m looking forward to coming back and saying G’day to everyone and checking out what the country looks like,” said Sara, a 22-time Golden Guitar winner.
“What I like about gigs like these is that they are easy and relaxing. People can bring a chair or a blanket and their own nibbles and drinks and sit back and listen to some artists, some music.
“It’s so great to be able to play for people who like my music and to be playing on someone’s property, on the edge of Lake Hume, with amazing gardens and the stars as the backdrop, well, it will be lovely.”
Sara is known for her writing from the heart and singing from the soul. The land, family and an innate and empathetic understanding of what it is to live in Australia are themes that run strongly through her songs.
She released her first album, ”Chasing Buffalo”, more than 20 years ago and revealed there is a new one in the mix, the 10th in her career.
“I’ve just recorded new music and I’ll be releasing a new single the weekend I’m at Bowna,” she said.
”You will hear my new song called Layers, which will be very exciting. I can’t wait to play that for you all.
“So, there’ll be new music and there’ll be old songs and music off my Storer album, which is the one I recorded with my brother Greg.
“And although I don’t generally play covers, I’ve just put a last-minute cover on this new album.
“I won’t tell you the song but it came about from taking the boys to footy and I thought, wow, I’d love to do my own version of this song. So, I’ve just done the vocals here in Darwin and I’ll be playing it at Bowna. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Sara will be bringing multi-instrumentalist Damian Cafarella with her to “jeuje things up a bit”.
Damian is a full-time member of Lachlan Bryan and The Wildes and has performed with many other fine musicians, including Kasey Chambers, Felicity Urquhart, Marina Prior, Catherine Britt, Andrew Swift, Gretta Ziller, Rhonda Burchmore and Bonnie Anderson.
Sara has gained a loyal following across Australia and earned high praise for her unique and authentic songwriting from the likes of Paul Kelly, Colin Hay, Shane Howard, Josh Cunningham (TheWaifs), Kev Carmody and John Williamson, who have also recorded duets with her.
Fans in the Riverina can expect to see more of Sara in 2025 as she plans to tour with the new album.
“I hope to drop another single and then the album after the Tamworth festival, so in early 2025 there’ll probably be some touring on the books.”
She looks forward to another catch-up with locals.
“Albury has always been a good audience for me. You either love towns or hate them and I love Albury because they turn up and make my music possible.
“There’s nothing better than performing live music, it’s real, it’s raw and you can really connect with people in a different way to what you can off an album.”
