Who are you and what is your business? My name is Renee Jennings and our business is Five Stems Herbs. We grow organic herbs and microgreens using aquaponics.
Where did you begin? Four years ago we started growing just as a hobby and during the pandemic my son could not get fresh supplies, so we started growing for him. And word of mouth travelled around town and pretty soon, people were asking for more herbs and microgreens.
What do you produce? We produce a wide range of microgreens from kale, broccoli, and radish to micro chives, sunflowers and soybeans. We also produce basil, mint, parsley, flat parsley, thyme, garlic, chives and oregano.
Where can we buy your products? From Ariah Park Supermarket, Ardlethan Supermarket, via our Facebook or contact us via our email – [email protected] and we send through a mailing list of our availabilities.
What should we buy for gifts this Christmas? We offer free packaged dry herbs and we have our mixes to go with chicken, pork and lamb. We also have seasoned products for Italian herbs pizza bases and glass jar mix which is six different spices all in one glass collection.
What’s your favourite product that you make? The salad mixes which is the mix of all the microgreens. It’s a really good salad base and has a lot of health benefits.
What would you make if you could do anything? I would build a much bigger aquaponic system to grow fish as well as the vegetables and salads that we grow.
How would you promote the Riverina? The Riverina is the best place for fresh produce. A lot of us that grow here are not on large scale, and we put a lot of passion and pride into what we grow. So what you’re getting is quality.
Who is another local producer you admire? Col Harper from out our way at Ariah Park as well. He does Taravale Lambs. I really admire his diversity.
What do you want for Christmas? A holiday.
