The Riverina Regional Library is offering families the chance to enjoy some cheap yet fantastic activities these Easter school holidays.

Events will be held in libraries right across the Riverina, including Junee, Leeton, Coolamon, Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala.

Marketing and Engagement Officer, for Riverina Regional Library, Katrina Roe said families who can’t afford shouldn’t have to miss out on enjoying a fun time out this easter.

“With petrol prices sky high and many families opting to stay at home these Easter holidays, Riverina Regional Library is offering cosy, stay-at-home activities. Families can experience a holiday at home, with affordable school holiday fun at their local library,” she said.

“We don’t want any child to miss out on holiday fun because of petrol prices and the cost-of-living crisis. RRL holiday programs are affordable for every family and allow kids to have a bit of fun without leaving town.”

Ms Roe said the program offers families the chance for the digital generation to learn some thrifty, hands-on skills.

“RRL holiday programs are bringing back other vintage skills,” she said.

“Children can learn to make their own paper at Junee Library, build an analogue clock at Leeton Library or have timeless fun with old–fashioned games like hopscotch, hangman and ‘go fish’ at Tumut Library.

“To make sure children in smaller communities don’t miss out, Coolamon Library is taking its Easter Holiday program to the surrounding villages, even those without a library.

“Kids can stuff and decorate their very own fluffy puppy or unicorn at Marrar Hall on Wednesday, 8 April at 10:30 am, they can make a key chain on Thursday, 9 April at 2:00 pm at Ardlethan CWA Hall or build a wooden bird house on Friday, 17 April at 10:30 am at Ganmain Hall.”

Ms Roe said the fun at RRL isn’t just limited to younger families.

“Older kids and teens can also try something new,” she said.

“Coolamon Library has a cool youth program of skateboarding workshops with Totem Skateboarding, GRIT Youth Bootcamps, an epic loaded nachos session at Coolamon Cheese Co and their annual Youth Fest party, while Tumut Library is hosting a Teen Trivia Night with free pizza.

“We have recently expanded our digital collection of children’s books to allow more isolated patrons to borrow some brilliant Australian kids’ books without driving to town.

“There’s nothing more cosy or relaxing than reading together in the school holidays.”
