We say: One of the good guys … will never be forgotten for being s**t scared in the dark room with Fatty Vautin or riding and crashing a motorbike up a fence sideways in the Channel 9 carpark on The Footy Show.
Definitely in our Top 50 Aussies to have a beer with!
Do you have a connection to the region? When was your last visit?
I was down in Wagga late last year with MG (Mark Geyer) and had a wonderful night with a roomful of drunks at Romano’s. I stayed upstairs there and loved it. I’ll be back for the Wagga Kangaroos’ season launch (Friday, 24 March). I’m staying at the RSL, so I’m very happy with that!
Favourite part of the region?
Any bistro.
What was your best food experience?
Every experience I have with food is wonderful, but any pub or club food. Also, I’m a big fan of Maccas in the morning.
What’s a “must do” when in the region?
Eat.
Drive or fly?
I like to drive as it is quite relaxing; however, if I’m time-poor, flying is great.
What are your three go-to songs on the road trip to the region?
Any Elton John or Eagles. I’ve seen Elton a few times. He is extraordinary.
Name one person you would not want in the passenger seat for the trip.
One person I wouldn’t want in the passenger seat? (Pauses). No comment, but he works for News Ltd (said in his best Phil Rothfield impersonation).
Name anyone, dead or alive, who you would want in the passenger seat for the drive.
I’d love to spend more time with my late dad on the trip.
Do you bring your own pillows?
No, but I bring my own sleep apnea machine! Chicks love it!
Why should someone who hasn’t visited here make the trip?
Because it’s where the great Mortimer family is from who I played with at the Bulldogs, and anywhere that they call home must be a great place!
The Big Marn and Parramatta legend Peter Stirling will be in Wagga for the Kangaroos’ 2023 season launch on Friday, March 24, from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
