Laurie Daley’s list of achievements on the website NRL.com are many – the former centre and five-eighth captained Australia, won three premierships, was part of two Kangaroo tours, was a Dally M Medal winner, the accolades go on.
Do you have a connection to the region? What and when was your last visit?
Born and raised in Junee, I left when I was 17 and I was last home in February. I always try to get home a couple of times a year.
Favourite part or thing about the region?
The people. I know it’s a cliche, but I really do like the fact you are catching up with people you are friends with, family or people you know from when growing up there. It is and always will be my safe spot, where it is just home.
What was your best food experience?
Plenty to choose from … any of the pubs for a meal or the Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory.
Drive or Fly?
Mostly drive home as I enjoy my own company.
What’s your three go-to songs on the road trip to the region?
I could listen to anything from AC/DC to Ed Sheeran and Charlie Pride.
Name one person you would not want in the passenger seat for the drive?
I love my wife, but she is not a great passenger and is always giving advice about stopping, reminders about where other cars are etc.
Name anyone dead or alive you would want in the passenger seat for the drive?
Elvis in the passenger seat!
Do you bring your own pillow?
I like my own pillows, if I remember to pack them.
Why should someone who hasn’t visited here make the trip?
People are very genuine and friendly. There are plenty of things to do and see around the Riverina and coming from the hustle and bustle of the city to the country, you feel like your life is in a much clearer, safer and relaxing spot.
