We say: MG is one of the best … while he was an absolute lunatic on the footy field, his passion and aggression were matched by his skill level. He’s also one of the most genuine blokes off it, and anyone who shapes up to King Wally in an Origin game certainly deserves to be in our 50 Top Aussies we’d love to have a beer with.
Do you have a connection to the Region? What and when was your last visit?
Well, what a time to ask me that question – I have a connection now that I’ve just bought into Lillypilly Wines at Leeton. It was after a run of speaking gigs across the Riverina that I was shown the vineyard, fell in love and made an investment!
Favourite part of the Region?
I’ve always loved all parts of the Riverina: Coota, Gundagai, Griffith, Hay, Junee, Temora, Wagga, but Leeton is now top of the tree for me.
What was your best food experience?
Any pub that has steak! I am yet to have a bad feed at any pub throughout the region, and the best garlic bread/pizzas of all time too!
What’s a “must do” when in the Region?
The ”must do’’ is to head to the Lillypilly vineyard in Leeton and do some wine tasting!
Drive or fly?
I always drive. Otherwise, I wouldn’t enjoy answering the next question.
What are your three go-to songs on the road trip to the Region?
Ahhh, crank them all up nice and loud – the following three are absolute go-to’s on this road trip.
On the Road Again– Willie Nelson
Peaceful Easy Feeling – The Eagles
We Like to Party – Vengaboys
Name one person you would not want in the passenger seat for the drive.
After our latest trip to the Riverina, it would have to be my big mate Wendell Sailor. He could talk a glass eye to sleep.
Name anyone, dead or alive, you would want in the passenger seat for the drive.
I’d love to be cruising to the Riverina with Elvis, Chrissy Amphlett and Michael Hutchence. I love my music and there’s three of the best right there.
Do you bring your own pillow?
Always bring my own pillow – why wouldn’t ya?
Why should someone who hasn’t visited here make the trip?
I tell those that haven’t been to do it! It’s a beautiful region with beautiful people, beautiful food and beautiful wine! What are you waiting for?!
