We say – Joey – is a dead set legend and the GOAT (Greatest of all time) – and someone who is in our ‘Top 50 Aussies to have a beer with’.
We asked him 10 questions about our part of the world.
Joey, Do you have a connection to the Riverina and when was your last visit?
Connection … I’m engaged to a girl from Batlow. I also played footy with David Barnhill (former NSW Blues player and former owner of the William Farrer Hotel in Wagga). I also spent time in the Wagga Base Hospital with COVID (ha-ha).
Favourite part of the region?
Adelong Falls.
What was your best food experience?
My fiance Kate’s mum Jan’s Christmas ham.
What’s a “must-do” when in the region?
Go to any town and chat to the locals. Good, honest hardworking Australians.
Drive or fly?
Drive and stop at Goulburn for lunch.
What are your three go-to songs on the road trip to the region?
I now listen to talkback radio.
Name one person you would not want in the passenger seat for the drive?
Robbie Kearns (former Storm and NSW Blues player). I roomed with him in Origin and he never shuts up – great bloke though.
Name anyone dead or alive you would want in the passenger seat for the drive?
Bob Hawke.
Do you bring your own pillows?
I’ve had a neck fusion so I always bring my own pillow.
Why should someone who hasn’t visited here make the trip?
Great people, slower-paced, great landscape, cold beer, warm welcome.
