Wagga may not be without Red Rooster for long, with the company behind the iconic chicken chain confirming plans to find a new site in the city.
Red Rooster’s Edward Street restaurant closed permanently on Sunday (13 September), bringing an end to the brand’s latest chapter in Wagga – but not necessarily its last.
Craveable Brands, which owns Red Rooster, has confirmed it is looking for a new location for the restaurant.
“While we can confirm that our Edward Street restaurant has permanently closed, there are plans to find a new site for Red Rooster,” a Craveable Brands spokesperson said.
“We would like to thank the Riverina community and, of course, our incredible Red Rooster team for the support they have shown over the years.”
The Edward Street store closed with little warning for customers, with a sign on the door announcing it would permanently close after trading on Sunday.

The business had still been promoting Red Rooster products on Facebook just two days earlier.
The closure follows the loss of Red Rooster’s Wagga Marketplace store two years ago.
The owners of the Edward Street store have declined to comment at this stage, but may have news to share about their plans for the former Red Rooster site at a later date.
Craveable Brands is an Australian food and beverage franchising company which owns and operates brands including Red Rooster, Oporto and Chicken Treat.
Red Rooster began in Western Australia in 1972 and has grown into one of Australia’s best-known chicken chains, initially building its reputation around roast chicken before expanding into fried chicken, burgers, wraps, rolls, chips, salads and family meals.
The Wagga closure is part of changes across the Red Rooster network, with the chain’s Fyans Street store in Geelong closing in September 2025 after almost two decades.
On the NSW Central Coast, a former Red Rooster site at Lake Haven is also being converted into an El Jannah restaurant.
Wagga has more than 15 fast food outlets still operating in the town.
