A Queensland man has been charged with high-range drink driving after allegedly being seen drinking alcohol at a Griffith service station before getting behind the wheel.
Police allege a member of the public spotted the 42-year-old consuming alcohol after arriving at a petrol station in Banna Avenue in a white Kia rental car about 3 pm on Sunday (14 June).
Concerned by what they had witnessed, the person contacted the police.
Officers attended the service station and stopped the driver in the carpark, where he underwent a roadside breath test and allegedly returned a positive result.
The man was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station for a breath analysis, which police allege recorded a reading of 0.168.
That result places the driver in the high-range drink-driving category, more than three times the legal limit.
The man’s driver’s licence was suspended on the spot and he was issued with a court attendance notice for high-range drink driving.
